BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ'S
How many pictures will I receive?
You will receive 200+ professional edited images in a combination of black & white and colour, delivered in a private online gallery for you to download in both high resolution for printing and web sized friendly formats.
Will my photos be in black & white and colour?
I personally love both black & white and colour images and find it often hard to choose so I will deliver all selected photos in both options
What happens if you miss my birth?
In the unlikely event that I am unable to attend your birth due to sickness or measures beyond my control I have multiple, highly skilled, professional and absolutely beautiful back up photographers who can step in and capture your birth in my place. I will edit all of the images and deliver them to you as normal.
In the event that you, the client have not given enough notice or in the event of a preciptious (fast) labour, unfortunately no refund will be given. I will still come and capture all the beautiful moments after birth or a newborn session can be arranged at another time if you prefer.
Will you take photos of everything?
Birth photography is documentary storytelling, and whilst I love to capture the whole story if there is anything you are uncomfortable with such as crowning shots or in the event of an emergency then I will absolutely not capture it. This can be discussed in our pre birth catch up or you can tell me at any time during the birth if you would like me to stop photographing.
When will I receive my photos?
Your gallery will be ready within 4 weeks. I promise it will be worth the wait.
Full videos will be ready in 6-8 weeks.
How much do you require as a deposit?
I require a $500 non refundable deposit, this secures your place on my calendar, as I only take on a very limited number of birth clients each month.
When is my final payment due?
Your final payment is due by 37 weeks.
I am planning a home birth but what if I need to be transferred to hospital?
Depending on the circumstances and if the hospital permits other support people I will absolutely follow you to the hospital. I will do my best to advocate for you so I can continue to document your birth story. It is also important for you to advocate for yourself in this situation.
If the circumstances do not permit and I am unable to follow you to the hospital I will return at the earliest convenience to capture a fresh 48 or newborn session.
My partner is unsure about having a photographer in our birth space, what can I say to reassure them?
Along with meeting your baby for the first time my most favourite moments to capture during a birth and some of the most beautiful photos in my client's galleries are the ones that show the love and connection between partners. It is so raw and so beautiful. These precious moments would not be captured if your partner is the one behind the camera.
Birth can often be very intense and you and your birth partner both deserve to be completely present in that moment, it only happens once.
I understand birth photography is quite an investment. However, you cannot recreate these moments. Birth is very fleeting and often women, their partners and families love to look back on it. Having you birth story documented allows you to do this, reliving one of the most beautiful days of your life over and over again.
Will my photos be shared with the public?
Whilst I love to share the photos I capture as it helps to not only build my portfolio, but it educates and empowers birthing women and it also helps to normalise birth. I will always respect your privacy and no images will ever be shared without your prior permission.
